BRADY THRELFALL

PB’s are hard to come by, especially when you’ve been grinding away for the last 18 years. A huge result for Brady Threlfall at the Launceston 10; sub 30 was finally cracked on the roads with an insane 29:48, and now Brady’s thirsty.

You’re well known on the running scene - tell us more about yourself:
I run 5km through to marathon and love the sport, most of my life is taken up with training, coaching or covering the sport through the Inside Running Podcast. I’ve been running for the last 18 years and love the history of the sport and being a student of it. Outside of running I’m a school teacher and Dad of our toddler, Hudson. A lot of people wouldn’t know that I enjoy collecting and reading books and try knock over 1 a week.

Favourite locations to train?
Jogging and long runs - out at the Barmah Forrest about 20mins out of Moama and for faster work on the flat backroads of Moama.

You must be stoked to run a new PB in Launceston and first time under 30 on the roads?
Yep - it was solid and really close to what I was expecting. When I ran 29:34 on the track for 10km I knew I was in good shape and it’s nice to be close to that on the roads. 29, sounds so much better than 30 as well. No one really cares about the seconds do they?
Thoughts on the event?
I’d raced there 4 times previously. It’s a great event and always draws an amazing field. For guys like me you know you can get sucked along with the faster guys.

With Gold Coast being canned - What’s next?
The AthsVic Cross Country and Road Racing Season with the Bendigo Bats and then hopefully building towards Melbourne Marathon.

Future plans and goals with running and outside of running?
It’d be good to lower my marathon PB (2:19) so it aligns with all my other PBs better and outside my own running I’m looking forward to getting more into the coaching and media side of things. Running has done a poor job of telling the stories of our elites and documenting their training in the past and would like to do more of that.
Is there an individual/group you’d like to pay homage to?
We have a tiny group in Echuca/Moama of 4 athletes that get the job done each week, we don’t have a name or anything and it’s nothing fancy or formal, but we keep each other accountable and it’s rewarding to see some fast times coming out of the group Archie Reid recently ran 29.22/65:40 and another member, Nathan just ran a 14.33 5km last week.

Favourite beer?
I enjoy testing new ones and love the variety we now have. If I had to pick one I’d go Colonial Brewing Co. Small Ale

It’s a mid so it’s good for running but still great tasting.
